Rabun County: Tallulah River Road

September 15th, 2012. After driving over Patterson Gap Road in the Chattahoochee National Forest, we turned off Persimmon Raod and drove up the Coleman River Road as far as we could go. We still had some daylight although it was cloudy. We decided to drive up the Tallulah River Road.

It’s rare that a road runs right along a river. Usually, such roads only meet the river occasionally. But this road stuck to the river bank for a long distance. The road was a two-laned, paved road with occasional pull-outs. There were many unobstructed views of the river and some obscured by rhododendrons.

It’ll be fun to revisit this road in sunny weather and when the rhodies are blooming.

At the top of the river road, we turned onto Tate City Road and drove to the end of the road. The road got really interesting when it crossed into North Carolina…
