This Carolina Wren was blending in well. I might not have noticed it had it not moved. Interestingly it didn’t seem to have tail feathers but it flew without any difficulty.

  1. Young ones seem to have rather short tails, so perhaps this one is young. What a cutie.

  2. thanks for your thoughts on this one, Ellen. You're probably correct that this is a young bird. I think I say another one this morning that had short tail feathers compared with the adults that I'm used to seeing. They must be youngsters from last year.

  4. I love the Carolina Wrens. They seem to have lovely personalities. They routinely nest in one of our paper boxes by the mail box. Last year, the wren sitting the eggs would 'bomb' out of the box and in through the car window. Last Winter, we reversed the paper box so that the opening faced away from the road. Must more peaceful for everyone, wrens included.
