Hymenopellis sinapicolor

 
September 9th.



A small, strikingly beautiful mushroom with a yellow-gold cap and white stem was growing in the clay soil in the leaf litter near logs at the north end of the Fishing Area picnic area.



The cap was approximately 1.5 inches in diameter. A close inspection showed that the yellow cap had a deeper, mustard yellow center that showed some radial streaking towards the margin.



The stem and gills of this mushroom. The stem was approximately 2.5 inches long. 

This mushroom was identified on the Facebook Mushroom Identification Forum as Hymenopellis sinapicolor. It doesn’t have a common name. Although it appeared to be growing in soil, this mushroom grows on buried deadwood, explaining why It looked like it was growing in soil.
