Field Pansy (Viola bicolor)

Several violets and pansies are blooming at the moment. This Field Pansy (Viola bicolor) was the first to bloom. It is a small pansy; the flower is about 1/2- to 3/4-inch in length. They vary in color from very pale to a deep purple.

This bloom is releasing pollen. There are several clumps of pollen on the petals.

The Field Pansy is native to the United States; it is widespread in Walton and Barrow counties including in Fort Yargo State Park.
