Gil-Over-The-Ground (Glechoma hederacea)

Gil-over-the-Ground or Ground Ivy (Glechoma hederacea) is a member of the Family Lamiaceae, as are Lamium amplexicaule and Lamium purpureum. Compared with the Lamium species, Gil-over-the-Ground is a ground cover.

A closer look.

An individual plant. Its leaves are round and green. In the afternoon sun, the flowers are blue.

The flower, full-face and in profile. In the early morning light, the flowers are pink.

Glechoma hederacea is native to Europe, southwest Asia, and grows in most states the United States and Canada. I have only seen this flower in Fort Yargo State Park along the Berry Trail.
